Role of BC007 in managing Long Covid

6

What is BC007?

BC 007 is a short single-stranded DNA sequence (aptamer) which can bind to G protein receptor autoantibodies (GPCR’s). This therapy could improve symptoms of long Covid.

It is generally safe, and given as an infusion, lasting for about 8 hours in the circulation.

BC007 was initially tried for use in cardiopulmonary bypass surgery as an adjunct to anticoagulation but the effect was too short.

The potential long Covid benefit was an inadvertent outcome.

Becker, Niels-Peter, et al. "A three-part, randomised study to investigate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and mode of action of BC 007, neutraliser of pathogenic autoantibodies against G-protein coupled receptors in healthy, young and elderly subjects." Clinical Drug Investigation 40 (2020): 433-447.
