In the midst of the discussions about the importance of research and finding solutions for Long Covid, let us recall the devastating suicide rates in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).
"after controlling for age and other factors, the rate of deaths by suicide in this study was approximately six times higher in people with CFS than in the general population."
Roberts, Emmert, et al. "Mortality of people with chronic fatigue syndrome: a retrospective cohort study in England and Wales from the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Biomedical Research Centre (SLaM BRC) Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) register." The Lancet 387.10028 (2016): 1638-1643.
If those rates are paralleled in Long Covid as in CFS, the impacts to families and society would be devastating because of the numbers involved.
This is too important to ignore.
Condolences to all the families for persons already lost by suicide with CFS.
Thank you for remembering those of us with ME/CFS.
Worrisome in the extreme.
