Hi, I'm Dr Philip McMillan and I'm going to try and capture a central piece of my recent presentation around the primary pathophysiology in Long Covid. It's important to note that my aim is to get right to the heart of the disease.

We've seen many patterns around the disease that can be managed, but we're still only managing symptoms and not actually addressing the fundamental inflammatory process that is occurring around Long Covid.

I've had the privilege of seeing multiple cytokine profiles and I'm convinced that almost every patient has patterns of inflammation that suggest that the process of bringing inflammation into check has been damaged. So, it's important to recognize that in most inflammatory situations, the body has an off switch.

So, meaning that if the inflammation is going on too long, the immune system then applies a particular technique to switch off this immune response.

This seems to be lacking in the context of Long Covid and it seems that the inflammation is able to go on and on and on and in some people for over three years.

What this indicates is that part of the off-switch mechanism is damaged.
