Dr… what is the w-3 supplement you had taken, presumably over a long period. I am into my third year of tussle with eczema. After some severe flares in the first year and well controlled second year, now it is very low intensity - almost not there type. Only very recently my dermatologist prescribed a 3 month course of vit D, B3, B 12 and w-3 supplements. The last one is essentially 500 mg capsules of Flaxseed oil. I am not comfortable with this, even though I will follow it. We know that in terms of metabolism, plant based w-3 is much less efficient compared to fish based supplements. It is remarkable that you could bring your w-6/w-3 ratio close to the desired value of 3. Probably you increased your fish based food intake, along with the supplements. We, vegetarians, have no such source of the desired types of w-3, from our daily diet. Also, flaxseed oil is too expensive to be an every day oil and not suitable for deep frying. I use the more affordable ground nut oil, to limit w-6 and for more of w-9 ( oleic acid), the best consideration after w-3. I need to ask my dermatologist whether any fish oil capsule is a better option compared to flax seed oil. We can take it as a medicinal capsule. I read somewhere an year ago that the premises basing w-3 are not unequivocal, unlike the thinking about w-9 which is on much surer footing now.
